Common entrance test for MBBS aspirants from next year

Students aspiring to get admission in top medical colleges will have to now take a common entrance exam. From the next academic session, aspiring doctors will have to appear for a Common Entrance Test (CET).

As per the latest updates, the Union health ministry and the Medical Council of India (MCI) have reached a consensus to roll out CET for admission to all government, private medical colleges and deemed universities for MBBS course from the 2012-13 academic session.

This historic decision was taken on a meeting held on Monday (July 18) chaired by Union health secretary K Chandramouli. The meeting was also attended by officials of MCI and CBSE.

The modalities of the meeting are being worked upon. There were also talks about bringing institutes like AIIMS under CET’s ambit.

If this decision is implemented then the prestigious AIIMS won’t be able to hold its own undergraduate entrance exam. Speaking to The Times of India, an official said, “The top students can choose to join AIIMS. However, more discussions will be held on this matter. The idea is to have one single medical entrance exam in the country,” an official said.”

There are also talks to review and revise the existing medical curriculum. As per MCI governing body, the medical curriculum of medical colleges will be revised and put up on the website for public comments soon.

The new, common entrance exam will be held for MBBS courses offered by all 271 medical colleges – 138 run by governments and 133 under private management. Approximately, 8-10 lakh students are likely to appear for the maiden CET exam.

This common entrance exam will bring more transparency and uniformity in selection students for medical colleges. At the moment, there are 31,000 MBBS seats for which 17 entrance tests are held.

Coaching teachers are no wizards. They cannot wave a moron into a genius! They are only there to teach you, to help clear your concepts; and these big coaching institutes have began exploiting students to make money and many times their study material and test series are also irrelevant. If a student is selected, it is because of his own hard work, not because of the coaching institute. So, it does not matter if you belong to a small city. join a local coaching institute where you can clear your concepts. also keep following this website.

      for physics:
      1. Dont solve numericals from hi-fi books.
      2. You need a good local coaching for physics where you can get some personal attention
      3. You can try Comprehensive physics..it is a bulky book but will clear your concepts..First try its solved numericals your self and then follow the solution if you are unable to make it. No need to burden your self by solving its unsolved Questions. For practicing Objective Questions, get a good MCQ book.
      4. You must try to remember the formula and the correct way of solving question.
      5. Although concepts building is necessary, learning the formulas and applying them correctly should be the priority as usually conceptual Questions are not asked in state PMTs and AIPMT. Most of the question here are simple formula based…but it is a fact that many of the students who solve hi-fi books make mistakes while solving these questions. So, beware of errorrs in solving or calculation.

    Regards,
    Abhilash

    • Rahul Chawla says:

No information regarding CET is available right now and there are only few chances that it would start from this year. if any such information comes, I would inform you.
and there is lesser possibility of a test for English and General knowledge.

  16. maisha singha says:

sir my main goal is always to be a doctor………. and i am doing BSc in S.V.S.D.P.G Batholi Una (H.P)………i scoe 82% marks in +2……

    • Rahul Chawla says:

then you must take a drop and start preparing for medical entrances…you can also continue your college and prepare side by side for PMT but I won’t recommend it because firstly you won’t be able to give quality time for ur preparation and secondly life in college may hinder your interest and enthusiasm for entrance preparation. also, I guess, the college is not that much good and you deserve better.

  17. juhi kapadia says:

hello sir! lot of confusion going around… is there any assurance that aiims, bhu, jipmer, cmc n other institutes who used 2 have their seperate exms will also merge??

  18. kritika says:

want to know about complete syllabus of common test for pmt

  19. Dr. S. Sharma says:

As it happened in AIEEE selections for engineering this year, people secured the more than one seats in different colleges and till the end of 3rd counselling, all the seats were shown to be filled in particular colleges but actually the situations was different. Lots of vacant seats were available in those colleges for a particular course. This has really made a big confusion and worries also for the students who did not get through online counselling system. Only on manual counselling of that college has made those aspirants to get admission. If this would be the case in NEET pmt then I must there will be a chaos. What are your views in this case.
My second question is will there be selection on the basis of state merit or on all india rank.
    S. Sharma
